From Jeff, founder

Typora is a fantastic deal at $14.99. I would not pretend otherwise. I built Markd.ly because I needed mobile clients, vim, encrypted documents, snippets with variables, and an MCP server I could point Claude Code at. Typora does not ship those. If you want the cheapest possible markdown editor and Linux is on your list, buy Typora. If you want mobile + the deeper Pro toolset for $19 lifetime, try Markd.ly. — Jeff

FAQ

Is Markd.ly cheaper than Typora?+

Markd.ly is free on every platform; Typora is $14.99 with a 3-device cap. The desktop Pro upgrade is $19 at launch on Markd.ly versus $14.99 on Typora. So Typora is $4 cheaper for paid desktop, but Markd.ly is free if you do not need the Pro toolset, has no device cap, and ships mobile clients Typora does not.

Does Markd.ly run on Linux?+

No. Markd.ly desktop ships on Mac and Windows. Typora has Linux builds. If Linux is in your daily workflow, Typora is the right choice.

Does Typora support vim mode or encrypted documents?+

No to both. Typora has no vim mode and no document-level encryption. Markd.ly Pro ships full vim mode and AES-256-GCM encrypted .md.enc files on Mac today, with both rolling into the Windows build.

What about Mermaid and math?+

Both editors render Mermaid diagrams. Typora uses MathJax (broader extension catalog, slightly slower); Markd.ly uses KaTeX (faster, narrower extension set, fine for the vast majority of writing math). For most writers either is fine.
