Diskaroo vs DaisyDisk— honest comparison
Looking for a DaisyDisk alternative? Here's an honest Diskaroo vs DaisyDisk comparison. DaisyDisk wins on price, polish, and APFS depth on Mac. Diskaroo vs DaisyDisk only makes sense if you also use Windows or you need byte-exact duplicate detection — one license covers both desktops, and Diskaroo finds duplicates DaisyDisk doesn't look for.

|---|---|---|
| Entry price | $2.99/mo | $9.99 lifetime |

Pick DaisyDisk if
- ·Half the price at $9.99 lifetime, covering up to 5 personal Macs.
- ·Ten-plus years on the market with Apple Editors' Choice recognition and a polished sunburst visualization that's iconic in the category.
- ·Native APFS snapshot and purgeable space management — surfaces hundreds of gigabytes Diskaroo currently can't see.
- ·Scan-as-administrator mode that exposes restricted system files Diskaroo doesn't reach.
- ·Cloud-drive scanning for Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Box — Diskaroo only looks at local volumes.
Pick Diskaroo if
- +One purchase covers both Mac and Windows. DaisyDisk is Mac-only, so a mixed-OS household pays twice if they want parity tooling.
- +Byte-exact duplicate detection — three-pass strategy (group by size, then a 64 KB partial hash, then full-file hash) so a match is a real match, not a guess. DaisyDisk doesn't ship duplicate detection at all.
- +Squarified treemap visualization with drill-in and breadcrumbs — different visual approach from sunburst, easier to compare adjacent folder sizes side-by-side.
- +Collector tray that lets you stage files from multiple folders before deleting anything — review the whole batch in one place, then send to trash.
- +Honest Full Disk Access onboarding that detects translocated launches and walks the user through granting access without TCC guesswork.

From Jeff, founder
I bought DaisyDisk years ago and still recommend it on Mac. Diskaroo exists because half my machines run Windows, and paying twice for parity tools never made sense to me. The duplicate-detection pass came out of finding 40 GB of repeated downloads on my own laptop — DaisyDisk wasn't going to find those, so I built it. If you're Mac-only and on a tight budget, get DaisyDisk. If you're juggling both desktops, Diskaroo is one license, both apps, both update channels.

FAQ
Why is DaisyDisk cheaper?+
DaisyDisk is $9.99 lifetime for up to 5 personal Macs. Diskaroo is $19.99 lifetime, but that one license covers both Mac and Windows. If you only use Mac, DaisyDisk is the cheaper buy and a great app — we're not pretending otherwise.
Will Diskaroo add APFS purgeable handling?+
It's on the roadmap but not shipping today. DaisyDisk has had purgeable space and snapshot management for years and does it well. If reclaiming purgeable space is the reason you're shopping, buy DaisyDisk now and revisit Diskaroo when that ships.
Can I scan from administrator on Mac?+
Not yet. DaisyDisk has a built-in scan-as-administrator mode that surfaces restricted system files. Diskaroo currently relies on Full Disk Access for visibility, which covers most user-facing storage but not protected system paths.
Does DaisyDisk find duplicate files?+
No — duplicate detection isn't a DaisyDisk feature. Diskaroo's Pro tier runs a three-pass byte-exact match (group by size, then a 64 KB partial hash, then a full hash) so a flagged duplicate is identical down to the byte. That's the main reason a current DaisyDisk user might add Diskaroo alongside it.
Does the Diskaroo lifetime really cover both desktops?+
Yes. One $19.99 lifetime purchase activates Diskaroo on both Mac and Windows from the same email. Sign in with the same address on each app and Pro features unlock on both.
