A markdown editor for Mac and Windows

And you would rather not buy it twice or rent it forever. Markd.ly's one-time license covers both desktops. This is the honest version, including the part where the Windows build isn't yet at Mac's depth.

Mac · Windows · one license, both desktops · lifetime $19 launch / $29 retail

One purchase, both desktops

Many good markdown editors are Apple-only (you will hit this with several popular writing apps), and some that do cross platform charge per platform. Markd.ly Pro is a single one-time payment — $19 launch / $29 retail, lifetime — and it covers the Mac and the Windows desktop builds. Buy on a Mac, you also have it on your Windows PC, and vice versa. No second purchase, no subscription.

The free tier is also genuinely cross-platform: Markd.ly Free is a complete local editor on Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android — create, edit, save, live preview, Mermaid, KaTeX — at no cost.

The honest part: Mac is deeper than Windows today

This is the caveat that matters most on this page and it would be dishonest to soft-pedal it. The Mac direct-download build is the reference implementation with the deepest Pro toolset today. The Windows desktop Pro tooling is rolling in across the 1.x series — it is not all shipped yet. Pandoc export, vim mode, encrypted documents, snippets, custom CSS, advanced search: these are deepest on Mac now and arriving on Windows progressively across 1.x.

So the honest promise is: one license covers both desktops, the core editor is fully there on both, and the Mac Pro toolset is the deepest right now while Windows Pro is filling in across 1.x. If you need a specific Pro feature on Windows today, check its current Windows status before you buy. Buying expecting full Windows Pro parity right now would be buying on a promise the product has not kept yet — so don't.

What's the same on both — and the other limits

  • The same on both

The native markdown editor, file open/save, plain .md on disk; live preview, Mermaid, KaTeX; one-time pricing, no subscription, no account for the core job.

  • No sync

“Mac and Windows” means it runs on both — it does not mean your files sync between them. They do not. Moving files between machines is your job (a folder you control, version control, whatever you choose). Markd.ly has no sync.

  • Mobile is free-only

iPhone / Android is a free local editor; “cross-platform” here does not include a paid or synced mobile tier.

One editor, bought once, on both.

Native Mac & Windows editor. One lifetime license covers both desktops. $19 launch / $29 retail. Mac deepest today; Windows Pro rolling across 1.x.
