Install Terminal Tags

The Terminal Tags disk image window: drag the Terminal Tags icon along the arrow onto the Applications folder to install.

  1. Open

    Open TerminalTags.dmg from your Downloads folder.

  2. Drag

    Drag Terminal Tags into your Applications folder.

  3. Launch

    Open Terminal Tags from Applications and sign in with your Bravely Account.

  4. Allow

    Allow Accessibility in System Settings when Terminal Tags asks, then tag your first window.

    Open TerminalTags-Setup.exe from your Downloads folder.

  2. Allow

    If Windows shows a warning, choose More info, then Run anyway. The installer is signed by Bravely Studios LLC.

  3. Launch

    Terminal Tags installs and opens on its own. Sign in with your Bravely Account.

  4. Tag

    Tag your first window. After that, Terminal Tags lives in your tray.

Can’t install Terminal Tags?

  • The download did not start

    Download TerminalTags.dmg again (6 MB).

  • Terminal Tags does not open

    Drag Terminal Tags into your Applications folder and open it from there. macOS checks the signature once, then it opens.

  • A tag’s window won’t come to the front

    Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and allow Terminal Tags under Accessibility.

  • Where did it go?

    Terminal Tags lives in the menu bar at the top right of your screen, not in the Dock.

  • My tags disappeared

    A tag lasts as long as its window. After you quit Terminal Tags or restart, tag your windows again. Turn on Launch at login in Settings so it’s running whenever you sign in.

    Use the AppImage instead, for other 64-bit (x64) distros. It needs GTK 4 and FUSE 2. Download the AppImage (41 MB).

  • Nothing happens when I click a window

    Terminal Tags tags windows on an X11 desktop. On a Wayland session, native Wayland windows can’t be tagged: sign in to an X11 session instead.

Your first few minutes

Tag a window

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+` (or choose Tag a Window in Terminal Tags).
  2. Click the window you want to label.
  3. Type a name. Click the color dot to change the color.

Jump back to it

  1. Open the Terminal Tags menu in the menu bar (Mac) or the tray (Windows and Linux).
  2. Pick the tag by its color and name.
  3. Its window comes to the front.

Make tags your own

  1. Open Settings from the menu bar or tray.
  2. Edit the colors, pick Pill, Rounded or Square, and choose a font.
  3. Turn on Big tags to read them from across the room.
